What to Do in Frisco, Texas

Directly north of Dallas is Frisco, a growing town that gets its name from the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway that it was founded upon. Frisco features a wide range of activities, both indoors and outdoors, making it a place for enjoyable activities during all seasons. With Frisco’s rich history, burgeoning art scene and numerous entertainment venues, there’s something for everyone, whether you’re a longtime resident or a visitor to the city!

Visit a Museum or Science Center

  • Those looking to learn something new have several opportunities to indulge their hungry minds at local museums and science centers in Frisco. The Frisco Heritage Museum seeks to educate visitors on the city’s history with presentations and exhibits, including the Heritage Center, which takes you back in time with historic buildings and structures. The museum is also the temporary site for the Museum of the American Railroad’s exhibits, which showcase northern Texas' deep connection to the railway. More of the city’s heritage is on display downtown at the Frisco Historic Park & Museum, which exhibits several historic structures and artifacts, including a schoolhouse built in the 1800s. The Frisco Historic Park & Museum is open year-round, with limited hours in the winter.
For hands-on learning experiences, visit the Sci-Tech Discovery Center at the Frisco Discovery Center. The center has several interactive displays on different topics, including human biology and nanotechnology. Other activities, such as a Lego table and a discovery area, offer activities for visitors of all ages.

Experience Frisco's Art Scene

  • The Frisco Discovery Center shows a series of rotating galleries with work by artists from around the world; they also showcase work from local artists and host performances of dance and stage at their Black Box Theatre. While an office park usually isn’t the go-to destination for seeing art, the 162-acre Hall Office Park off of the Dallas North Tollway has a substantial sculpture garden as well as some indoor pieces, available for public viewing. An art tour map is available on the Hall Office Park website.

Take in a Sporting Event

  • Frisco’s development league sporting franchises make it a city for enthusiasts of any sport. Soccer fans can catch an FC Dallas game at the Toyota Stadium, followers of baseball can see the Frisco RoughRiders play at the Dr. Pepper Stadium and for basketballers the Texas Legends play at the Dr. Pepper Arena. Frisco’s Superdrome -- one of the country’s Olympic training centers for bicycling -- hosts races of all levels. Find event calendars for all of Frisco’s venues at their respective websites or at the Frisco Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Enjoy Nature or Go Shopping

  • Experience the outdoors in Frisco on wheels or on foot. The Frisco Parks and Recreation department maintains several biking and hiking trails of varying difficulty and length throughout the county. Check out the trail map on their website. If you want to experience nature without physical exertion, consider picnicking at one of Frisco’s parks. After you’ve finished enjoying nature, spend some of your money at one of Frisco’s shopping venues. Several shopping centers full of department stores and brand-name retailers, such as Stonebriar Centre, the Centre at Preston Ridge and Frisco Square, all offer traditional shopping experiences. If you’re in the market for something with a little history, visit Frisco Mercantile, a center that hosts hundreds of dealers selling antiques, art and local merchandise.
