Natural beauty and abundant wildlife are the inspiration for things to see and do around Minong, Wisconsin. Located in the northwest part of the state, deciduous forests, lakes and rivers dominate the scenery and are the center of recreational activities in this area. To take in cultural attractions drive about one hour north to Duluth, Minnesota, to see the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra or catch a show at Bayfront Festival Park.
Year-Round Trails
- Revel in the natural scenery when your recreation destination is Wild Rivers State Trail in Minong. This well-kept, multiuse trail is 104 miles of compacted gravel surface that passes through three counties. Visitors ride all-terrain vehicles all year long and snowmobiles in the winter. When weather permits, you’re free to ride horses, go mountain biking or enjoy a hike. The scenic highlight of this trail is its many waterways, including the Namekagon River, which is a federally designated river inside the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway system.
A Weekend of Golf
- Take a weekend and go golfing in Minong at the scenic Black Bear Golf Club. This public club has both 9- and 18-hole rates, and some local hotels offer “play and stay" packages. This course favors those with strong drives, and highlights include a long par 5 and an approach that slopes away on a large green at the final hole. Improve your game at their chipping and putting areas as well as a driving range. An eatery and pro shop are on-site.
- Camping Opportunities
- Public and privately owned campgrounds that provide spaces for RVs and tents are available in Minong. The modern campground at Totogatic Park has many spaces next to the lake, which features a sandy bottom and easy access to swimming. Hygienic amenities include flush toilets and showers. The campground also maintains basketball courts, volleyball courts and a playground, as well as fishing options and a boat launch. Wild River Trail Campground is privately owned and close to several local ATV trails.
Hunt and Harvest
- The Totogatic Lake Wildlife Management Area is about 27 miles from Minong in Hayward and spans over 1,400 acres. Inside the park you'll find Totogatic Lake, an 8-foot-deep body of water heavy with vegetation and covering over 537 acres. Of the many recreational activities available here the most popular are waterfowl hunting and harvesting wild rice. Visitors also come to gather wild edibles; hunt bear, deer and grouse; and fish for panfish and northern pike.
